When I
last went to my local library I was helped by a very attractive lad
with a lovely white smile. When she smiles I am amazed at such a
lovely set of sparkling white teeth! All the same I recall that her
teeth weren't always like that. One day I plucked up courage to
compliment her on her wonderful smile, she told me that she had
recently had her teeth re-aligned by her dentist with the use of
braces and once that was done they were specially cleaned and
whitened by the expert. Apparently it cost quite a lot of money but she said she was so
pleased to feel the smile on her lips now and to see the reaction
of people she meets who often congratulate her for her new look of
pearly white teeth.
I guess that in reality we would all like to have such a lovely
smile with pearl white sparkling teeth. Teeth
whitening makes you feel good about yourself and in the
eyes of others.
Trouble is every day we are attacked by many enemies that stop
our teeth from being like those of my Librarian with such an
attractive smile.
The food that we eat and the drinks we consume all gather to
create nasty stains on our teeth by adhering to the protective
coating of protein that our mouths generate which prevents damage
to the enamel. Aside from the heat of the tea and coffee drinks we
devour which can cause structural changes to our teeth over a
longer period, it is unfortunate but stains seem to often be an
almost immediate effect on our teeth whenever we eat some foods and
fruits.
You should be aware that these include all wild and cultivated
berries, curries (my favourite!), red wine (you can almost feel the
staining with red wine), coloured fizzy drinks, and soya sauce
light or dark, all can in all likelihood stain your tooth enamel,
giving a yellowish coating or the actual; colour of the fruit or
juice that marks the tooth enamel. Contact with carrot juice, for
example, will stain your teeth a slightly yellowish hue, ideal for
Halloween maybe but not for your hot date! Watch out for sticky and
fattening food
with lots of sugar and fats will also adhere quickly to your
precious tooth enamel. These cause a layer of discolouration on top
of your tooth and this permits other food and drinks to stick to
this new layer that has been formed, what a nightmare! Is there no
way out of this?
While it is easy to go to the dentist and request your dentist
to prescribe you a home based bleaching program to for teeth
whitening that you can follow at home, dental treatments are
costly, whereas over the counter treatments generally are much
cheaper. Most whitening methods will work well on teeth which have
yellowed, and some tooth whitening can be done even if teeth are
brownish or greyish.
A visit to the pharmacy will allow you to explore a variety of
dental remedies for your teeth that you can carry out in the
comfort of your home. These will include the application of
bleaching strips, or bleaching gels and are much cheaper than a
dental treatment. We know that these bleaching agents work on your
teeth, but I have noticed that most of my Indian friends all seem
to have sparkling white teeth and super smiles. They are hiding a
little secret that I am going to let you in on!
They have a tradition going back centuries of chewing betel nuts
and their leaves sometimes with an assortment of special spices. So
when my friends chew the betel nut and the leaves, these materials
rub against their teeth, and whiten them in the process. You will
be able to by these at a special Indian food store or health food
shop and whiten your own teeth.
You can however use a home remedy which will help to whiten your
teeth in the short term. Most of the ingredients will in all
probability be in your house already,
baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, and salt, the preference would
be a little baking soda as it is not so nasty to taste. Several
proprietary toothpastes today include baking soda as the "magic
ingredient"!
Use caution and a always a soft bristle toothbrush with
home-made teeth whitening attempts.
After a few days of these gentle home remedies, you will find
pleasing comments from your friends who will see the difference and
the whitening effect on your teeth of these handy home tooth
whitening remedies.
If you are not satisfied with the results of your home remedies
or your home tooth whitening bleaching program, then you will need
to seek professional dental treatment.
